Many obese people do not see themselves as fat, and they actually think that they are healthy-or so says a new study.
Talk about being a "glass is half full" type person. I would, as I was!
The problem is this positive attitude does not dispel the fact that obese people are at a heightened risk of death, IE.heart disease, strokes, high blood pressure, etc.
Published in Archives of Internal Medicine, measurement scientists body awareness of the dipped-beam headlamps 2,056 men and women are already participating in a survey, Geodesy individuals on their body perception.
Researchers asked the participants to look at the pictures and choose their ideal body size. people who picked figure was the same, or greater than their actual body size was classified as "misperceiving" their body size, but these people were also more likely to be happier.
Worry Warts, which recognises the they are fat and out of shape, however, have a tendency to be less happy.I am willing to guess only exacerbates the problem. You Shaun of the Dead fans, it means "to" make things worse.
Important factors were considered. Researchers found people with higher incomes, and better training were not more likely to perceive their body weight accurately than less educated people, or those with lower incomes.
And here is the problem with that. Those who are misperceived their size, so that their health risks as the same as the people who is more accurately identified their body size; there is a problem. Obese people have a higher risk of cardiovascular disease, cancer, type-2 diabetes, hypertension, and the list goes on and on.
All this reminds me of the scene in four weddings and a Funeral-not, I do not like girly movie, I saw it in a film class in College-where the overweight, smoking, drinking, jovial guy drops died from a heart attack after the boozing, eat and dance at the wedding reception.
I think this is a personality thing. If you are a happy go lucky and have a fun social network, you spend less time on introspective and worrying about all the details. I am a lousy, cynical, depressed the root, so I spend a ton of time worrying about my health, but one of my happier and-as coincidence may have it-overweight friends, enjoy life more and don't sweat the small stuff ... well, the not-so-small things.
